The Toilet and Bath Cleaning Challenge

Who loves cleaning toilets and bath? Yay? Nay? Yes, indeed only a few thoroughly love cleaning their bathrooms and usually because they are the ones exclusively using it. Can you imagine yourself cleaning a toilet bowl used by more than 3 individuals in the house? Fairly okay maybe, but imagine cleaning a bathroom that was not cleaned for more than a month, filled with grime on the tiles, a yellowish tint line inside the toilet bowl, yellowish brown stains around the sink, and other filthy things that need I say more?

Here at CMDA Cleaning Service headquarters, we have tried and tested 4 leading commercial liquid toilet cleaners in the Philippines for our clients who constantly ask how to maintain their oval office (toilet). We have reviewed them based on active ingredients and efficiency on actual use and we have listed them here from the least effective to the most effective. This way, cleaning your bathroom won’t always be a struggle. But to make things clear, we do not use these products in our cleaning services because we have industry grade cleaning solutions and disinfectant that we source from our local supplier. The ingredients though, are close or similar to these.

Toilet Duck - Mr Muscle Toilet cleaners

Toilet Duck – Duck Power bottle (Right) and Mr. Muscle Triple Action Bathroom Cleaner (Left)

#4 Toilet Duck – Duck Power

Active Ingredient(s): Lactic Acid and Alcohols Good for: Toilet bowls only. As its name implies, it is only good for the toilet bowl, but not the whole bathroom (walls, tiles, etc ). It can remove water stains inside the bowl and leave a good fragrance after. How to use it: squeeze generous amount around the toilet bowl rim, let it drip and leave the bowl for at least 30 minutes. Scrub and flush after. Downside: Uneconomical. It’s not an all-in-one toilet and bathroom cleaner. You will still need to find another better liquid bathroom/toilet cleaner.

#3 Domex Toilet Cleaner

Domex Toilet Bowl Cleaner - Mr Muscle

Domex Bathroom Cleaner – Ultra Thick Bleach (Right) and Mr Muscle Toilet Cleaner (Left)

Active Ingredient(s): Water, butoxydiglycol, tetra potassium EDTA, amine oxides, fragrance, and silicon emulsion Good for: The whole bathroom. It doubles as a cleaner and deodorizer which is also good for you because you won’t experience any difficulty in breathing while using this product. How to use it: squeeze generous amount around the toilet bowl rim, and top most tiles of the bathroom and let it drip. Leave it for at least 30 minutes. Scrub and flush/rinse after. Downside: It is not the strongest in the market. It contains detergent as well, leaving a slippery/soapy feel if you do not do extra scrubbing or if you don’t rinse it well. You will need to soak your toilet bowl and tiles a little more time before you could actually remove the grime and stains.

How to use it: squeeze generous amount around the toilet bowl rim, and top most tiles of the bathroom and let it drip. Leave it for at least 30 minutes. Scrub and flush/rinse after. Downside: It has a mild odor and fumes that can irritate your eyes and skin. Not best to use without gloves.

STAIN, MOLDS OR GROUT PROBLEMS?

There are instances that, despite spraying or soaking your bathroom tiles with gallons of toilet and bathroom cleaners, some stains can’t seem to be removed. Your inner OC (Obsessive Compulsiveness) is already screaming and want to rain fire on that pesky spot. Calm yourself for a minute and see if it is just a stain or mold, or if you need to re-grout your tiles. Stain and molds can be easily removed using bathroom cleaning solutions, the worst would be using Hydrochloric acid (Muriatic Acid). If the grout (the white cement in between your tiles that hold them together) has been washed, scrubbed or eroded away due to persistent cleaning or regular us of the bathroom, you will need to re-grout them already.

What is re-grouting?

Re-grouting is the process of applying grout in between the tiles to strengthen and secure the tiles and make the bathroom tiles looking new. You can have a professional do it or you can buy a re-grouting powder or re-grouting compound to fix it. No matter how hard you scrub, if the grout is already eroded, it will never be as pearly white as it used to be. There are also re-grouting mixtures that are water proof and mold resistant which can help you maintain the cleanliness of your bathroom.
